The Importance Of Making Friends With God

I hope you understand the following obvious states:

1. Light and Darkness.

2. Warm and Cold.

3. Positive and Negative.

4. Forward and Backward.

5. Good and Evil.

We can see or experience all of the above in the world we live in.

Now, do you believe in spirits?

Do you believe that there are evil spirits and that there are good spirits?

If you believe that spirits exist then wouldn’t it be logical to think that both good and bad spirits also exist?

As Christians, we believe that the bad spirits are the demons and the good spirits come from God in the form of angels.

We also believe that there are heavenly kingdoms that are occupied by spirits, just like we have physical beings who occupy the earth.

Based on the earlier list of phenomenons such as light and darkness, you would have observed that light and darkness give way to each other. When the light comes darkness disappears, and when darkness comes light disappears. But you should also be aware that the disappearance of one depends on the strength of the other.

God is the source of spiritual light, and darkness which is an attribute of evil attempts to clear out the light. The light of God however is stronger than the darkness.

If you were given the option to be on one side, then there is no question that you would choose light over darkness.

Satan revels in dark works, a complete opposite to God.

The chance for you to work with God is readily available. You can partner with God to help share the light.

To do that you would need to befriend God. Befriending God is by way of faith.

What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” – Romans 4:3 (NIV)

It is cool to give your life to God. There is no shame in it and you don’t really need to announce it although you would eventually have to profess it.

The bible says this:

“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” – John 1:12 (NIV)

With God, you cannot be on the losing side.

When you receive Jesus, it gives you the right to become a child of God.

In any journey you want to make, there is always a route. There is always a way to go. Jesus offers a way to God because of the fact that he took upon himself the burden of our collective sins.

If not for the blood of Jesus we would be at odds with the nature of God which is complete Holiness.

Humans carry a sinful nature and if God was to constantly relate to us He would have to put up with our sins too often.

So God had a plan. In earlier times the only way to atone for sin was to offer some animal sacrifices to God. How many sacrifices will God have to deal with when we have billions of people on the face of the planet?

There is no sacrifice in the world that would be pure enough to cover for our sins.

So God decided to send His son Jesus to live a holy life on earth and in the end be sacrificed and offered holy and blameless. In God’s eyes that was the best thing, He could do for us.

God didn’t want us to face the oppression from Satan without any means of defending ourselves. The blood of Jesus can be used as a defense. It is a holy sacrifice through which our sins can be forgiven.

Since we live in a physical world we are bound to experience physical hardships and struggles regardless of whether you are holy or not, but one thing that should be clear is that you cannot be on the losing side. You are always going to be on the winning side. By that, I mean the spiritual side. If you are on the winning side, then you will experience many occasions when some of your physical struggles are resolved through divine intervention. Think of it this way. If you want to swim across a river that is not so clean, you might succeed, but your clothes may become smeared and you might also have to deal with some foul odour. Knowing Christ does not exclude you from experiencing the occasional pain and disappointment but it surely takes care of a lot of unseen events and physical things that you may not even be aware of.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33 (NIV)

Overcoming the world in the above verse is clearly referring to the kingdom of darkness and not some physical or material issue. That alone makes me believe that the spirit can control the physical.

Why?

The reason I believe this is because Jesus said that he has overcome the spiritual world. This means that the victory over the spiritual is certainly more glorious or important than whatever physical issues you may be having. That tells me that once you deal with your spiritual issues, some of your physical issues can easily iron themselves out.

So don’t be surprised to know that there are some cases where the spirit can influence the physical.

There are so many advantages to getting close to God. The advantages include:

1. The benefit of salvation. This means that the devil cannot own you and handle you any which way.

2. The possibility of divine intervention.

3. The ability to occasionally receive instructions either through dreams or when a word pops out as you read the bible.

4. A greater understanding of why certain things are the way they are.

This is because spiritual things sometimes don’t make sense to the ordinary mind.

The only way to understand is to be involved.

“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth” – John 4:24 (NIV)

I will like to reiterate that the physical mind cannot comprehend spiritual matters, and the only way you can know what God wants of you is to get close to Him.

Below, Jesus was telling his disciples what he has afforded them understanding because of their closeness to him.

“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” – John 15:15. (NIV)

There were things the disciples would not have known if they were not close to Jesus.

So you can see that there is a massive advantage to befriending God. It sounds like a very special thing to be a friend of God, but it is actually simpler than you may think. All it requires is absolute faith in God. You don’t have to be a bishop or a pastor to be called God’s friend. Unfortunately, there are a lot of God’s children who think their pastors are closer to God than any other person in their movement.

So today, I am giving you the opportunity to rethink your position if you have always thought that God is not important. Your physical talent and abilities may not be enough to give you that total peace.

There is something so nice about connecting with God. It is easy. Just open your mouth and confess that you have sinned and that Jesus should come into your heart and then go on to believe in His name.

Also, you have to read the word of God, the Bible, because it teaches you a lot of things you should know. Also, since you now have a new friend, you should speak to that friend every day. The latter is obvious. How do you call someone your friend but don’t speak to them?

The rest is just about trying to live a more careful life in line with your new belief.

For a lot of things that you don’t know, you just ask anyone that is already a seasoned believer and they will put you through. Even if you went on social media you will find many videos, articles, etc. Information and help are abundant.

It is your story to tell when you experience God.

Now is time to take a step of faith.
